The Alocasia Frydek, also known as Green Velvet, is a tropical houseplant with a luxurious appearance. Its deep green, velvety leaves are adorned with striking white veins, giving it an almost graphic look. Each leaf feels soft to the touch and shimmers subtly in the light — a true eye-catcher for lovers of unique foliage textures.

What makes it so special is the combination of elegance and character. The Frydek grows compact and upright, making it perfect for a stylish corner in your home. Originally from the Philippines, it’s a variant of Alocasia Micholitziana — a botanical gem rarely seen in this form.

Despite its delicate appearance, it’s surprisingly resilient. It requires a bit of attention, but once you get to know it, it’s easy to care for. Give it a spot with bright, indirect light and a touch of tropical love, and it will reward you with ever-larger, velvety leaves.

Care tips

Frydek loves bright, indirect light. Place it near an east-facing window or a few meters from a south-facing one. Direct sunlight can scorch its leaves, while too little light may slow growth and fade leaf color. Rotate the pot occasionally to encourage even growth.

As for watering: it has moderate needs. Keep the soil lightly moist, but let the top 2–3 cm dry out between waterings. Too much water can lead to root rot, while too little will cause the leaves to droop. Use a breathable potting mix with perlite, bark, and coconut fiber for optimal drainage.

Frydek thrives in high humidity — 60% or more is ideal. Mist it regularly or place it on a tray with water and clay pebbles. During the growing season, feed it every two weeks with a foliage plant fertilizer. It’s mildly toxic, so keep it out of reach of pets. With a little care, it will grow into a botanical showpiece.
