Calathea Orbifolia loves indirect light. In the tropics, it grows beneath the canopy of tall trees, so direct sunlight is a no-go. Place it in a spot with filtered daylight, such as near a window with a curtain or a few meters from an east-facing window. Too much light can cause its leaves to fade or dry out — and that would be a shame for such stunning foliage.

As for watering: it enjoys regular hydration but hates wet feet. Keep the soil lightly moist, but let the top few centimeters dry out between waterings. Use rainwater or low-lime water if possible, as tap water with high lime content can cause brown edges. In summer, water twice a week; in winter, once is usually enough. Watch for drooping leaves — that’s its subtle way of saying, “I’m thirsty.”

Lastly: humidity is key. Orbifolia craves a tropical climate, so daily misting is more than welcome.
