As for watering: keep the soil lightly moist, but avoid letting the roots sit in water. Use rainwater or filtered water if possible, as tap water with high lime content can stress the roots and cause leaf issues. In spring and summer, water 2–3 times a week; in winter, once is usually enough. A drainage layer of clay pebbles helps remove excess water effectively.

Lastly, humidity is crucial. Makoyana comes from tropical rainforests and craves a moist atmosphere. Place it on a tray with pebbles and water, use a humidifier, or group it with other plants. Daily misting with lukewarm water also helps. Brown leaf edges or curling leaves are signs the air is too dry.
