Care tips

Mikado is a true desert dweller and loves dry feet. Only water her when the soil is completely dry. In summer, once every two weeks is enough, and in winter she can easily go six to eight weeks without. Too much water is her biggest enemy — it can lead to root rot. In doubt? It’s better to wait. She stores water in her leaves and handles herself just fine.

In terms of light, she’s flexible, though she prefers bright indirect sunlight. She also does well in partial shade, as long as it’s not too dark. Avoid placing her in full sun, as this can discolor her leaves. The ideal temperature is between 15 and 25°C, and she doesn’t need extra humidity. In short: a plant that effortlessly adapts to your rhythm and space.

Repotting is only needed every few years, when she literally outgrows her pot. Choose a pot at least 20% larger than the previous one, and add a layer of clay pebbles for drainage.
