Care tips

Ficus Kinky is an easy companion, as long as you give it a bright spot with indirect sunlight. It loves brightness, but direct sun can fade its variegated leaves. Place it a few meters from a south-facing window, or closer to a west- or east-facing one. It’s sensitive to drafts and temperature fluctuations, so choose a stable spot where it can settle peacefully.

As for watering: Kinky has moderate thirst. Water only when the top layer of soil feels dry. In summer, this may be a bit more frequent; in winter, less so. Make sure the pot has drainage holes and consider adding a layer of clay pebbles at the bottom to prevent the roots from staying wet too long. Overwatering can lead to leaf drop — and that’s best avoided.

During the growing season — spring and summer — it appreciates a monthly dose of houseplant fertilizer. You can gently wipe its leaves with a damp cloth now and then to keep their shine. And while it’s not demanding, it does enjoy average humidity. A misting session or a nearby bowl of water works wonders. Note: its sap is mildly toxic to pets, so keep it out of reach of curious noses.
