Care tips

Ficus Lyrata loves plenty of light, ideally at least five hours a day. Place it in a spot with bright, indirect sunlight — for example, a few meters from a south-facing window, or directly near an east- or west-facing one. Too little light can lead to leaf drop, especially after purchase, so give it a spot where it feels at home. Avoid drafts and temperatures below 15°C, as it’s sensitive to cold.

As for watering: Lyrata has moderate needs but is sensitive to soggy roots. Only water when the top layer of soil feels dry. In summer, this may be once or twice a week; in winter, once a week is usually enough. Use a pot with drainage holes and airy potting soil to ensure excess water can drain properly.

For extra care, gently wipe its leaves with a damp cloth — this keeps them glossy and supports photosynthesis. During spring and summer, it appreciates a monthly dose of houseplant fertilizer. And while it’s not demanding, it does enjoy moderate to high humidity. A nearby bowl of water or occasional misting helps it feel right at home.
