The Alocasia Polly, also known as Alocasia Amazonica or African Mask Plant, is a tropical houseplant with a bold personality. Its arrow-shaped leaves are deep green with striking, creamy white veins, giving it an almost graphic appearance. The wavy leaf edges and glossy texture make it a true eye-catcher — small in size, but big in presence.

Native to the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia, Polly is a compact cultivar that fits perfectly into smaller spaces. With a height of around 40 to 50 cm, it’s ideal for windowsills, side tables, or plant stands. Its unique leaf pattern resembles an African mask, which explains its nickname.

Care tips

Polly loves bright, indirect light. Place it near an east- or west-facing window, but avoid direct sunlight — it can scorch the leaves. Too little light leads to leggy growth and faded colors. Rotate the pot regularly to ensure even growth and vibrant foliage.

As for watering: it has moderate needs but is sensitive to overwatering. Let the top 2–3 cm of soil dry out before watering again. Use lukewarm water and make sure the pot has drainage holes. In winter, you can reduce watering slightly.

Polly thrives in high humidity. Mist its leaves regularly or place it near a humidifier. It’s mildly toxic, so keep it out of reach of pets. During the growing season, feed it every four weeks with a diluted liquid fertilizer. With the right care, it will remain a lively and healthy addition to your home for years to come.
